Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Directorate General of Corrections transferred 61 high-risk inmates to the Nusakambangan Island’s Super Maximum and Maximum Security facilities this week to undergo specialized supervision and intensive rehabilitation programs.

"This week, we conducted two transfer operations for 61 high-risk inmates. To date, we have moved a total of 1,948 high-risk inmates to Nusakambangan," said Director General of Corrections Mashudi in a statement on Sunday (1/2/2026), as quoted by antaranews.com.

The inmates were sourced from various facilities across Java, including 15 from Surakarta, 22 from Pamekasan, 14 from Surabaya, and 10 from Madiun. They are now housed in specialized units such as the Batu, Karang Anyar, Besi, Gladakan, and Narcotics prisons on the island.

Mashudi emphasized that the move is not purely punitive; authorities will perform assessments every six months. If an inmate shows a significant reduction in risk levels, they may be transferred back to lower-security facilities.

The high-stakes transfer was carried out under heavy guard by a combined force of Prison Intelligence, Internal Compliance officers, local police, and East Java Regional Police Mobile Brigade tactical units.
