inp.polri.go.id - Samarinda. East Kalimantan Regional Police Regional Police gathers media and journalists for a meeting at Samarinda Sub-regional City Police HQ on Tuesday (10/8/2024).

The event, with the theme of Dialogue on Strengthening Police Public Relations with the Media and Journalists, is an effort to strengthen the synergy between the police and the media.

This activity was carried out to create a safe and conducive atmosphere during the process and stages of the 2024 Regional Head Election.

The East Kalimantan Regional Police Public Relations Division Chief, Senior Superintendent Yulianto explains the importance of media role in suppressing the potential civil unrest.

“We want the media to be part of the cooling system in the 2024 Regional Head Election,” explains Yulianto.

Positive and calming information is the key in maintaining order amidst the dynamic society. The history of Regional Head Elections in Indonesia shows that the media has always been playing an integral role, both in providing information as well as determining the direction of public opinion.

“It is important for us to reduce the potential of civil unrest, and the media has the most important role in this part,” adds Yulianto.

In this digital era, social media users can help maintain a calm situation by not provoking each other.

"We know that the influence of social media on public security and order is very large. Therefore, the responsibility of each individual in disseminating information is very crucial," said Yulianto.

At the end of the session, Yulianto reaffirms police position as neutral entity during the Regional Head Election.

“Our duty is to maintain that everything is in order. The media also must take action by being fair and objective in providing information to the public,” concluded Yulianto.
