Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Satryo Soemantri Brodjonegoro has warned that universities may raise tuition fees due to government budget cuts.
Speaking before Commission X of the House of Representatives (DPR) on Wednesday (12/2/2025)), he revealed that several operational funding programs for universities are being trimmed by 50%.
The State University Operational Assistance Fund (BOPTN), originally set at Rp6.02 trillion, is among those affected.
"If universities face budget cuts, they may need additional funding for development. If no alternatives are available, raising tuition fees could be inevitable," he said, as quoted by antaranews.com.
Other affected programs include the Legal Entity University Fund (BPPTNBH) and the State University Revitalization Program (PRPTN), each seeing 50% cuts from their initial allocations of Rp2.37 trillion and Rp856 billion, respectively.
Minister Satryo has urged the Ministry of Finance to restore some of the budget, hoping to prevent universities—especially private institutions (PTS)—from raising tuition fees.
