inp.polri.go.id - Papua. The Papua Regional Police have urged the public to be more careful following the high intensity of rainfall that has occurred in several regions of Papua in recent days.

These conditions have the potential to trigger hydrometeorological disasters such as flooding, landslides, inundation, and rising sea levels in coastal areas.

The Head of Public Relations of the Papua Regional Police, Senior Superintendent Cahyo Sukarnito, stated that people living in coastal areas, along riverbanks, and in hilly areas need to be more careful and pay attention to their surrounding environment, especially during prolonged periods of heavy rain.

"We urge the public to be more aware and careful, especially those living in coastal areas, along riverbanks, and in hilly areas. Pay attention to the condition of your surroundings and take immediate safety measures if heavy rain continues for a prolonged period," said Cahyo, Sunday (10/4.2026).

In addition to being aware of the potential for flooding and landslides, the public is also urged to exercise caution when driving. Slippery roads and limited visibility during heavy rain can pose a higher risk of traffic accidents.

Drivers are expected to ensure their vehicles are ready by checking the brakes, tires, lights, and wipers before traveling.

The public is also expected to preserve the environment and refrain from indiscriminately cutting down trees, as vegetation plays a vital role in retaining water and helping prevent landslides.

"We also ensure that our personnel are ready to assist the public in the event of a disaster or emergency. We also continue to build synergy with the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Basarnas (National Search and Rescue Agency), the Indonesian National Military (TNI), and related agencies in disaster prevention and response efforts," said Cahyo.
