Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Human Rights Natalius Pigai dismissed allegations on Friday (20/2/2026) that the government was behind the recent intimidation of Gadjah Mada University (UGM) student council leader Tiyo Ardianto.

During a press briefing in Jakarta, he responded to reports of threats directed at Tiyo and his family following his public criticism of state programs.

"The law will never be used as a tool by those in power to silence individuals; therefore, I guarantee these threats did not originate from the government," Minister Pigai stated.

He said that President Prabowo Subianto has strictly prohibited the weaponization of legal or security apparatus to suppress human rights. While defending the right to dissent in a democracy, the Minister urged critics to maintain ethical standards and avoid defamatory narratives.

He has requested the Indonesian National Police (INP) to launch a thorough investigation to identify the perpetrators behind the threatening messages, which reportedly originated from international phone numbers and labeled the student an "agent of the state."
