Hundreds of People Evacuated as Floods Still Inundate South Aceh

Aceh Regency people still in evacuation as the water still floods the area, says the Head of Data, Information, and Communication Disaster Center of National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), Abdul Muhari. “Flood in South Aceh Regency has inundated the area since November 15th, 2023. Currently, there are 251 people who are still evacuating at their relatives house or in evacuation posts,” explains Muhari on Monday (11/20/2023). The flood that covers three regencies reportedly came from the Southeast Aceh due to the location of the three areas which sits at river downstream. “On Sunday November 19th, 2023, the river water has risen causing East Trimon, Central Trimon and Trumon districts flooded with water. The height of flood varies ranging from 30 to 120 cm,” adds Muhari. The flood in the three districts also caused Gampong Titi Posben and Gampong Seuneubok Pusaka to be flooded as well. As of now, the flood situation in East Trumon is well and under control. “Flood in Gampong Titi Poben has been receded with nine families have returned to their daily activities. Meanwhile, the flood in Gampong Seuneubok Pusaka has been receded although it still inundating Gampong crossroads at a height of 30 cm,” he said. Despite that, around 51 locals of Seuneubok Pusaka have returned to their daily activities It was reported that the flood waters in Gampong Cot Bayu and Gampong Lhok Raya has reached the height of 100 to 120 cm causing the isolation of Cot Bayu Village. “Regional Disaster Management Agency of South Aceh continues to assess and monitor the flood locations. Joint team have been deployed and established evacuation posts centered at Mobile Brigade Company Ie Jeureneh and other locations in affected regencies,” Muhari says in his conclusion. (ad/ek/pr/nm)
