Inp.polri.go.id - Selatpanjang. Immigration Office in Selatpanjang, Riau, have detained a 20-year-old Myanmar national, for harassing a local woman, sparking public concern.

The Myanmar, identified as TRN, traveled from Myanmar to Selatpanjang to meet a woman he had connected with on social media platforms Zepeto and Snapchat. Despite entering Indonesia on a valid visa, his presence became an issue after the woman and her family rejected his advances, according to antaranews.com.

Immigration officials received a complaint from the woman's family and dispatched a team to detain him on Monday. Initially, he resisted being taken to the Immigration Office but was eventually detained.

Selatpanjang Immigration Chief, Putu Sonny Kharmawi, said that TRN’s repeated visits and refusal to leave had disturbed the community. He had initially left Selatpanjang but returned, further alarming locals. 

Authorities are now investigating the case and considering further action.

TRN entered Indonesia through Batam Port with a visa valid until 4 October  2024.
