Ministry of Defense is set to deepen military cooperation with Russia through joint exercises, technology exchanges, and soldier exchange programs. following a meeting between Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin and Russia’s Secretary of the Security Council, Sergei K. Shoigu on Tuesday (25/2/2025).
Brigadier General Frega Ferdinand Wenas Inkiriwang, the Head of Information Bureau at the Ministry, highlighted that this collaboration would strengthen bilateral ties and provide significant benefits for Indonesia’s military.
“Through soldier exchange programs, each soldier can build connections and establish networks on the international stage,” he said, as quoted by antaranews.com.
The cooperation also includes technology sharing, as many of Indonesia’s key defense systems, such as Sukhoi 27 and 30 jets, Mi-35 and Mi-17 helicopters, and Kalashnikov rifles, are sourced from Russia. Joint military exercises like the ORRUDA drill in the Java Sea in 2024 exemplify ongoing collaboration, expected to boost military capabilities for both nations.
