Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesia has approved the repatriation of two Dutch citizens convicted in drug cases following a formal request from the Dutch government, Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendra announced on Thursday (9/10/2025).
“The Indonesian government has given the green light to return them to their country,” he said after meeting Dutch Foreign Minister David Van Weel, as quoted by antaranews.com.
One prisoner on death row aged 73 and another serving a life sentence aged 64 will be sent home on humanitarian grounds due to their advanced age and deteriorating health. Both are currently held in Jakarta’s Cipinang Prison.
The repatriation will follow the same procedure used in previous cases involving prisoners from Australia, France, and the Philippines. Minister Yusril emphasized that the court rulings remain valid in Indonesia, but rehabilitation and clemency will be at the discretion of the Dutch government once they return.
