inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian and Australian governments agree to strengthen their collaboration in the fields of immigration, refugee management, and regional security.
In the bilateral meeting with the Australian Home Affairs Ministry in Canberra on Monday (6/23/2025), the Coordinating Ministry for Law, Human Rights, Immigration and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendra expressed his appreciation for the various strategic recommendations in their discussion.
“We, representing the Indonesian government, express our highest appreciation to the Australian government for the quick and detailed intelligence information on human trafficking networks who used Indonesian territory as part of their transit route,” says Yusril on Tuesday (6/24/2025).
Moreover, Yusril re-emphasized the Indonesian government commitment in strengthening the operational cooperation in overcoming the illegal migration, including early detection, joint operation, and cross-border investigation.
Furthermore, he wanted to propose the establishment of a safe and real-time (current) information exchange mechanism, especially regarding key actors, funding flows, and digital platforms used by smuggling networks.
On the other hand, Australian Minister of Home Affairs Tony Burke responded positively to Coordinating Minister Yusril's statement.
"In general, I agree and support and am committed to realizing closer cooperation in the fields of law, immigration, refugee management, and security, between Australia and Indonesia," said Burke.
