Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  Indonesia and Chile have pledged mutual support for each other’s accession to key regional trade agreements, Minister of Trade Budi Santoso said on Monday (19/5/2025).

“Indonesia supports Chile’s accession to the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), while we hope Chile will back our entry into the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP),” he said following a bilateral meeting in Jeju, South Korea.

He emphasized that these moves are expected to boost both countries’ economies and contribute to regional growth. Indonesia has also requested Chile’s support in establishing an Accession Working Group to begin CPTPP negotiations on goods, services, investment, and government procurement, as reported by antaranews.com.

Minister Budi expressed confidence in Indonesia’s readiness to join CPTPP, citing its existing trade agreements with nine of the 12 CPTPP members. The two ministers also reviewed progress on the Indonesia-Chile CEPA, including Chile’s ratification of the Trade in Services Protocol and Indonesia’s near-finalization. Talks on investment and a CEPA review are scheduled for 2025.
