Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The government congratulated Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost on his election as Pope Leo XIV, the 267th leader of the Catholic Church.

“I represent the President and the government in congratulating Pope Leo XIV on his election to succeed the late Pope Francis,” State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi said at the Presidential Palace on Friday (9/5/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.

He welcomed the Pope’s emphasis on peace and social justice, saying, “One important message from Pope Leo is about peace and social justice.” 

President Prabowo Subianto is expected to deliver an official statement soon.

Indonesia views the Pope’s message as aligned with its values of religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence.
