Just five minutes into the second half, Indonesia made a substitution, replacing the injured Rafael Struick with Hokky Caraka, who immediately put pressure on the Philippines' goalkeeper. However, the Philippines was awarded a penalty in the 58th minute when a shot by Tabinas was deemed to have hit the hand of Dony Tri. Kristensen converted the penalty, giving the Philippines a 1-0 lead.
Despite playing an additional 11 minutes, Indonesia couldn't equalize. In the first half, Indonesia had been held to a 0-0 draw, and the team was reduced to 10 men after Muhammad Ferarri was sent off for a direct red card in the 42nd minute.
