Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Communication and Digital has issued Ministerial Regulation No. 9 of 2026, strictly prohibiting children under the age of 16 from holding accounts on high-risk digital platforms.
This regulation, a derivative of Government Regulation No. 17 of 2025 (PP Tunas), targets major social networks and gaming platforms to shield minors from digital threats.
"We are blocking account access for children under 16 on high-risk platforms, including social media and networking services, to ensure technology serves humanity rather than sacrificing our children's childhoods," Minister Meutya Hafid announced in Jakarta on Friday (6/3/2026), as cited by antaranews.com
The enforcement will begin in phases starting 28 March 2026. High-risk platforms specifically named include YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, Threads, X (formerly Twitter), Bigo Live, and Roblox. Under this regulation, existing accounts belonging to users under the age limit will be deactivated.
Indonesia is the first non-Western nation to implement such a comprehensive restriction, joining countries like Australia and Denmark in the global movement to combat cyberbullying, online grooming, and digital addiction. Minister Meutya said that this regulation aims to support parents in the struggle against "algorithmic giants" and predatory online content.
