inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Bonifasius Wahyu Pudjianto, Head of the Human Resources Development Agency at the Ministry of Communication and Digital, emphasized the importance of developing artificial intelligence (AI) technology based on local data in Indonesia.

Bonifasius stated that Indonesia must have sovereignty in developing artificial intelligence, not just become a market for global technology companies.

"We are not just a market for foreign solutions. But we must have what we call AI sovereignty going forward," said Bonifasius, Thursday (8/14/2025).

"Machines may come, but ultimately, we must have an environment, an ecosystem, so that the data also comes from us," he continued.

He said that the national AI ecosystem must be developed by utilizing data sourced and managed domestically so that the resulting technology reflects national values.

If technology development relies solely on data from abroad, the results will likely be biased.

"The government is actually also considering having a dedicated GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) for AI resilience. This way, the data can truly align with our values. We can see what other countries have already done," explained Head Bonifasius.

The Ministry of Communication and Digital Technology is currently conducting a public review of the national AI utilization roadmap. Bonifasius encouraged all parties to provide input to ensure that the direction of artificial intelligence technology development outlined in the roadmap truly aligns with Indonesia's needs.
