inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Manpower Yassierli believes that vocational education plays a strategic role in preparing Indonesian graduates for the workforce.
The Minister stated that formal competency alone is not enough, as today's industry requires talent with specific skills, certifications, portfolios, and multi-talented capabilities.
"Whereas in the past, expertise in one field was sufficient, now the world of work requires people who have both specialization and generalization, even multiple specializations," explained Yassierli on Thursday (8/14/2025).
He believes that the challenges of the current generation are far more complex than those of previous generations. Rapid technological change, globalization, and geopolitical dynamics have filled the world with uncertainty.
"In management, there's a term called 'VUCA,' which stands for Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, and Ambiguity. The world is changing rapidly, full of uncertainty, and increasingly complex. The key is to be adaptive," highlights Minister Yassierli.
In addition to technical skills, the Minister of Manpower emphasized the importance of non-technical skills such as leadership, creativity, and critical thinking.
The Minister of Manpower believes that the combination of competencies (hard skills), non-technical skills (soft skills), and cognitive abilities (cognitive skills) is the main differentiator in today's job competition.
According to him, a future-oriented mindset is also necessary to foster readiness to face future challenges.
This, the Minister of Manpower stated, needs to be accompanied by an entrepreneurial and innovation mindset that encourages the courage to innovate, think creatively, and create solutions.
"Don't wait for opportunities to come, but create them. With the right multi-competencies and mindset, students will be better prepared to compete, adapt, and lead in the future," said the Minister.
