Minister of Population and Family Development (Mendukbangga)/Head of the National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN), Wihaji, stated that family academy as one of the solution to addressing the gaming and social media addiction currently affecting many children and adolescents in Indonesia.
According to him, gadgets and mobile phones have become part of the family, and if used carelessly, they can shape unhealthy algorithms, attitudes, and even mental states in their users.
"This year, we're establishing a family academy, one of the academies we've created to educate the next generation. It's available for junior high, high school, and college levels. There's basic training, intermediate training, and advanced training," said Wihaji on Thursday (8/14/2025).
He emphasized the importance of people having control over their device use, as if they're not careful, a lot of time can be wasted scrolling through social media or playing games.
According to Wihaji, parents also play a crucial role in reducing children's and adolescents' device addiction by taking the time to have quality conversations with them.
He also highlighted the potential for games to lead to deviant behavior. Therefore, solutions are needed to reduce and prevent excessive addiction, one of which is through parental involvement.
