inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono conveys that Indonesia is ready to be the peacemaker in helping end the war between India and Pakistan if asked.

"The Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia 1945 (UUD 45) mandates Indonesia to actively realize world peace," said Sugiono in his statement in Jakarta, Friday (5/16/2025).

According to him, whatever is done is certainly in accordance with the constitution. \

"If we were asked to do anything that is of a nature to create world peace, we will definitely proactively join in the effort. That's all," said Sugiono in response to a question regarding the possibility of Indonesia as a peacemaker between India and Pakistan (5/15/2025).

On the same occasion, Sugiono said that Indonesia hopes that the tension between India and Pakistan will soon subside, and that the two can sit together to find common ground.

India and Pakistan are currently in a ceasefire after both agreed to temporarily stop all military operations at sea, in the air, and on land, effective from Saturday (5/10/2025) last week at 17:00 local time.

"We hope that the conflict that is happening can subside soon, because war anywhere by anyone will not bring benefits," said Sugiono.

On many occasions, he said, President Prabowo Subianto often encouraged countries in conflict to find common ground, then work together, and collaborate because it is all for the welfare of the people in each country.

Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated after the Indian military launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting what the Indian called "nine terrorist locations" in Pakistan and the Pakistan-administered Kashmir region.
