Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Youth and Sports Erick Thohir said Indonesia’s delegation to the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand aims to maintain its third-place finish achieved in Cambodia in 2023.

“Our target for the 2025 SEA Games remains the same, at least to secure third place again, as in Cambodia,” he said during a press conference in Jakarta on Thursday (16/10/2025), as reported by antaranews.com.

He acknowledged the goal will be difficult since 41 of Indonesia’s 87 gold-winning events from 2023 will not be contested in Thailand. The country currently projects 46 potential golds, far short of the 82–90 required to retain third place.

The minister said his office will work with sports federations to reassess medal targets and focus funding on athletes most likely to win.

Indonesia’s SEA Games budget has been increased from Rp10 billion to Rp 60 billion, allowing the country to send up to 800 athletes to the December 2025 competition.
