Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Health plans to send 300 nursing graduates to Japan in 2025, up from an average of 200 annually in recent years as a response to growing interest among young nurses seeking international careers, particularly in elderly care.

“Since 2020, Japan has opened opportunities for nurses and caregivers. We’re expanding our efforts by preparing candidates with stronger cultural and professional readiness,” said Dr. Yuli Farianti, the Ministry’s Director General of Health Human Resources, on Tuesday (6/5/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.

She attended a seminar focusing on career opportunities in Mie Prefecture, where over 30% of residents are elderly. Indonesia produces about 30,000 nurses annually, including 9,000 from public health polytechnics. Between 2019 and 2024, 863 Indonesian nurses were deployed to Japan.

A 2024 MoU between Indonesia’s Health Ministry and Mie Prefecture strengthens this cooperation, ensuring better preparation and certification.

Mie Governor Ichimi Katsuyuki highlighted that nurses are highly valued in Japan and offered competitive salaries with a pathway to permanent residency.
