Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed a two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran on Wednesday (8/4/2026), following an announcement that navigation through the strategic Strait of Hormuz will be restored.

"Indonesia views this momentum as a positive beginning and encourages all parties to optimally utilize this window to advance a sustainable, peaceful resolution," said the Foreign Ministry spokesperson Yvonne Mewengkang, as cited by antaranews.com.

The diplomatic breakthrough followed an announcement by US President Donald Trump to suspend military strikes, which was met by Iran’s confirmation of upcoming negotiations in Islamabad, Pakistan.

Yvonne said that the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz is a critical development for global navigation and economic stability. As a proponent of peaceful dialogue, Indonesia reaffirmed its support for constructive diplomacy that prioritizes civilian safety and ensures the freedom of international shipping lanes in the Gulf region.
