Inp.polri.go.id - Kuala Lumpur. The Indonesian Consulate General in Kuching has facilitated the repatriation of 59 Indonesian nationals who violated Malaysian immigration laws.
The return process was conducted through the Immigration, Customs, Quarantine, and Security (ICQS) facility in Tebedu, Sarawak, to the Entikong Border Crossing Post (PLBN) in West Kalimantan.
Consul General Raden Sigit Witjaksono said on Thursday (28/11/2024) that the consulate repatriated two individuals, a mother and her son, from its Temporary Shelter (TSS). It also facilitated the repatriation of 57 irregular migrant workers detained at the Semuja Immigration Depot in Sarawak.
"Of the 57 deported individuals, 50 were men and seven were women," he explained, as quoted by antaranews.com.
The deportations stemmed from immigration violations, primarily overstaying their permitted residency in Malaysia. These Indoensians were deported after completing their sentences in Malaysian detention facilities.
Since January 2024, 4,336 Indonesians have been deported from Sarawak, with 130 of them repatriated under KJRI Kuching’s programs.
According to the consulate, the trend of deportations from Sarawak has steadily increased over the years, peaking at 4,367 cases in 2020. Recent data highlights an ongoing need to address immigration compliance among Indonesian nationals in Malaysia.
