Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh is currently managing a massive influx of 2,117 Indonesian citizens seeking urgent repatriation following a major crackdown on online scam centers by Cambodian authorities.
Between 16 and 23 January 2026, hundreds of citizens flocked to the diplomatic mission daily after being displaced from illicit operations, prompting an emergency response to facilitate their safe return to Indonesia.
"The Embassy is coordinating intensively with Cambodian authorities to expedite the issuance of exit permits and seek leniency regarding immigration penalties for our citizens," Ambassador Santo Darmosumarto said on Friday (23/1/2026), as cited by antaranews.com.
To handle the surge, which peaked at over 500 cases in a single day, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has deployed additional staff and equipment to streamline document processing.
While those with valid passports are encouraged to depart independently, the embassy is issuing Emergency Travel Documents (SPLP) for undocumented workers. Authorities remain on high alert as they conduct case assessments to identify potential victims of human trafficking among the thousands currently awaiting processing in Phnom Penh.
