In response to ongoing threats and attacks by the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) led by Egianus Kogoya, the Indonesian Military and the Indonesian National Police (INP) evacuated 18 health workers and residents from the Alama District in Nduga Regency to Mimika Regency on Tuesday (2/21/23).
"The evacuation was carried out using the EC-725/HT-7201 helicopter from the Indonesian Air Force with pilot Major Arif Khoirudin and a rescue team of 6 personnel led by Brigadier General Juintah O. Sembiring on board," said Police Senior Superintendent Ignatius Benny Ady Prabowo, the Head of Public Relation Division of the Papua Regional Police.
He said that the workers and residents were immediately taken to Mimika Regional Hospital for immediate health examination after landing at the Mozes Kilangin Airport in TImika
"The evacuation process was smooth. The evacuated workers and residents are now undergoing medical examinations at the Mimika Regional Hospital. Afterward, the Mimika Sub-Regional Police Station will collect data and statements (from them)," the spokesperson said.
The Indonesian Military and the INP have reiterated their promise to protect the community from any KKB disturbances and to guarantee their health and safety.
