Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesian National Police (INP) Deputy Chief Commissioner General Dedi Prasetyo instructed his subordinates to overhaul wildfire mitigation strategies by adopting a multi-approach policing model during an operational briefing in Jakarta on Monday (7/9/2026).

Briefing 322 officers assigned to field education and prevention tasks across South Sumatra, West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, and East Kalimantan, he emphasized moving away from reactive fire fighting toward predictive policing, ecological management, and corporate accountability.

"Do not simply fight fires after they spread. Middle and top managers must audit ground management and address root ecological causes, such as drying peatland water tables," Chief  Dedi said.

Police data recorded 113,616 hotspots burning 202,010 hectares across 38 provinces as of Sunday. Chief Dedi instructed law enforcement officers to pursue entire liability chains when investigating corporate involvement in illegal land clearing.
