Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian National Police (INP) is ramping up efforts to combat human trafficking by strengthening international police cooperation, particularly with Malaysia, where many key perpetrators are based.
Commissioner Wahyu Widada, the INP Head of Criminal Investigation Agency, emphasized the need for cross-border collaboration to capture these criminals.
"Many of the traffickers are in Malaysia, so we need to collaborate with the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) to take action," he said during a briefing on Friday (22/11/2024).
Chief Wahyu noted that the INP has established strong international police ties. Recently, they arrested a fugitive involved in online gambling in the Philippines, thanks to collaboration with local authorities.
"Through police-to-police cooperation, we can speed up coordination and bypass lengthy official channels," he added.
Between 22 October and 22 November 2024, the INP uncovered 397 human trafficking cases, arrested 482 suspects, and rescued 904 migrant workers.
