Inp.polri.go.id - Medan The Security Maintenance Board of the Indonesian National Police (INP) held a focus discussion group on Thursday (2/23/23) to discuss security strategy on the vital objects in Indonesia, including Lake Toba.

Director of the Vital Object Security Directorate of the Security Maintenance Board Brigadier General Suhendri presented the strategy, highlighting six key challenges in the implementation of the strategy ranging from lack of security standards to absence of integrated security posts.

The first and second challenges were lack of security standards for tourist destinations and lack of collaboration among stakeholders.

“The third one is lack of infrastructure and facilities, the forth one is the fact that the memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Tourism and the INP has not been well implemented and the fifth is limited human resources,” he said.

The sixth challenge was the absence of an integrated security post for the tourist destinations, he added.

To address these issues, the Directorate is set to implement a series of security strategies, including fulfilling the security needs, constructing essential infrastructures, and establishing an integrated security system. It includes e the formation of security guards and the provision of special uniforms.

“The North Sumatera Regional Police will establish a special police force in the tourist destinations,” he said.

The security strategy for Lake Toba and other vital objects is a collaborative of the INP, which serves as the coordinator, and the Indonesian Military, the local administrations, the National Search and Rescue Agency, the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, the Health Services, Fire and Rescue Agency, the internal management, and the public.
