Inspector General Karyoto, the Chief of the Jakarta Metro Regional Police, has inaugurated 46 local preachers (da'i) and female preachers (da'i yah) for public order and security to combat rising street brawls during a  ceremony, held at the Promoter Building Auditorium of theJakarta  Regional Police on Wednesday (4/10/2023). "I hope that there can be a religious approach by the da'i and da'iyah towards the younger generation, which can be one of the agendas that need to be implemented," said Inspector General Pol Karyoto in a statement as reported by antaranews.com He expressed hope that these religious leaders will help reduce street brawls and promote unity among the youth through religious guidance within the area, emphasizing the importance of proactive and preventive strategies for public safety and order. Director of Community Development  of the Jakarta Metro Regional Police, Senior Superintendent Badya Wijaya, highlighted the objectives of forming the so-called Kamtibmas preachers, which were organized by his directorate, including countering those disrupting public order, building synergy with religious figures, and enhancing public trust in the police (mg/inp/pr/nm)
