Japan Offers Their Help to Manage Natural Disasters in Indonesia

After the Malaysian Embassy provided direct assistance to Cianjur, now universities in Japan are also lending their hands. The Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia (RI Ambassador) to Japan, Heri Akhmadi, welcomed their intention to cooperate in disaster management in Indonesia from Nagoya University, Japan. "We welcome the offer of cooperation in disaster management from Nagoya University. Indonesia and Japan are countries both prone to disasters. Therefore, it is hoped that Indonesia can benefit from Japan's experience in dealing with natural disasters," said Ambassador Heri Ambassador Heri said the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo through the Education Attache would prepare a disaster management mechanism with Nagoya University. During the meeting, the Chancellor of Nagoya University Professor Sugiyama Naoshi stated "Our deep condolences for the loss in earthquake at Cianjur. We are ready to assist in handling earthquake disasters in Indonesia. Nagoya University has experience and research facilities to handle natural disasters," said Sugiyama Naoshi . The meeting with the Chancellor of Nagoya was held during the sidelines of the Ambassador Goes to Campus which is part of Indonesia Friendship Day 2022. In the public lecture which was attended by more than 50 Nagoya University students, apart from discussing disaster mitigation, Ambassador Heri also explained history, and the development of cooperation between Indonesia and Japan, especially in the trade and investment sector. During this visit, Ambassador Heri Akhmadi also greets and chat with Indonesian students studying at Nagoya University. Throughout 2022, Ambassador Heri Akhmadi made visits to a number of well-known campuses in Japan in the Ambassador Goes to Campus program. In addition to dialogue with Indonesian students and promote the arts and culture of Indonesia, Ambassador Heri continues to encourage research and educational cooperation between Indonesian and Japanese campuses.
