Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Jayawijaya Sub-regional Police have dismissed as false the rumors that members of an armed criminal group (KKB) have entered Wamena, the capital of Jayawijaya in Papua Mountains.

“The rumor caused unnecessary panic, but the situation in Wamena remains safe and under control. Claims that KKB has infiltrated the city are not true,” said Jayawijaya Police Chief Superintendent Anak Agung Made Satruya Bimantara on Wednesday (21/5/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.

He clarified that a recent armed clash between the Indonesian Military (TNI) and KKB occurred in Kurima, part of Yahukimo’s jurisdiction, not Jayawijaya. He urged the public not to believe or spread misinformation.

Chief Bimantara said the police, in coordination with the Jayawijaya military comand, are maintaining heightened vigilance and early detection efforts to preserve public safety.

“Security is critical to supporting local and provincial development programs aimed at improving public welfare,” he added.
