inp.polri.go.id - Batam. A joint team from the Indonesian Navy, the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) and Customs foiled an attempt to smuggle large amounts of drugs in the waters of Karimun Regency, Riau Islands.
On Wednesday, information about the arrest had spread in a number of online media and social media, stating data of 1.8 tons to 2 tons, but related officials in the Riau Islands region were not yet willing to provide an official statement.
When confirmed in Batam, Head of Batam Customs Zaky Firmansyah, was not able to provide information regarding the arrest.
Zaky said that his party was also focusing on uncovering several drug cases together with the Indonesian National Police (INP) Criminal Investigation Unit in the Tanjung Balai Karimun area.
Meanwhile, Head of the Riau Islands BNN Hanny Hidayat confirmed the information to the media.
However, he did not specify the exact amount of narcotics that were secured from a foreign ship named Sea Dragon that was caught crossing the waters of Karimun Regency.
According to Hanny, the joint team is currently concentrating on counting the amount of evidence of narcotics smuggled in the hull of the foreign ship.
He said that this disclosure was the result of strong collaboration between agencies.
