Inp.polri.go.id – Jakarta. Indonesian President Joko Widodo permits his ministers who runs for 2024 general elections to get a leave.
“Of course I gave (them) permission. It was always like that,” said Jokowi on Monday (9/11/2023).
Jokowi said that his ministries does not have to step down if they ever want to run for 2024 general elections. For him, what’s important is that his ministers do not use any state facilities while campaigning.
“We have to look at the rules, if it is permitted, well they don’t have to resign. The most important thing is that they don’t use any state facilities,” Jokowi explained.
He firmly believes that ministry and institutes program would still continue to run even if the ministers asked for leave.
General Election Commissions (KPU) currently is devising General Election Commission Regulations (PKPU) for President and Vice President nomination. PKPU stated that ministries or officials running for presidency could apply for leave during 2024 general elections process.
In the draft, President, Vice President, People’s Consultative Assembly member, House of Representative member, to minister and other officials should apply for leave with the permission from the current president.
The leave was in effect when the applicant was officially running for President or Vice President until the election is over.
