Inp.polri.go.id - Lombok. Jorge Martin of Prima Pramac Racing claimed victory at the Grand Prix of Indonesia held at the Mandalika International Circuit in Lombok Tengah, West Nusa Tenggara, on Sunday (29/9/2024), marking his first Grand Prix win since his triumph at the French Grand Prix in Le Mans last May.
Starting from pole position, Martin maintained his lead throughout the race, finishing ahead of strong competitors Pedro Acosta (GASGAS Tech3) and defending champion Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo). Acosta finished 1.404 seconds behind, while Bagnaia trailed by 5.595 seconds, as reported by antaranews.com.
Martin demonstrated consistency and strategic racing, avoiding mistakes that plagued his performance in the previous day’s sprint race.
Meanwhile, Bagnaia quickly advanced from fourth place, competing fiercely with Acosta, Marco Bezzecchi (Pertamina Enduro VR46), and Franco Morbidelli (Prima Pramac Racing) for the front positions.
The first lap was intense, marred by a significant crash involving Alex Marquez (Gresini Racing), Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia Racing), Jack Miller (Red Bull KTM), and Luca Marini (Repsol Honda), leading to their early exit. Marc Marquez (Gresini Racing) also faced challenges, retiring due to technical issues.
Despite setting the fastest lap, Bagnaia struggled to climb past the top two positions, ultimately finishing third. The top ten was completed by Morbidelli, Bezzecchi, Maverick Vinales (Aprilia Racing), Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha), Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM), Johann Zarco (LCR Honda), and Raul Fernandez (Trackhouse Racing).
The 16th round of the 2024 MotoGP season will continue at the Motegi Circuit in Japan from 4 to 6 October 2024.
