Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. A devastating fire swept through a densely populated neighborhood in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, on Monday, destroying around 250 semi-permanent homes and displacing 300 families.
The blaze began at 9.10 pm, reportedly from two houses, before spreading rapidly. Central Jakarta Metropolitan Sub-regional Police deployed 200 officers to assist evacuations and secure the area, while more than 25 fire trucks battled the flames.
“Personnel worked with firefighters to ensure residents’ safety and protect belongings,” said Central Jakarta Police Chief Senior Superintendent. Reynold E. P Hutagalung in his statement on Tuesday (2/6/2026).
Authorities set up emergency tents and a field kitchen with Brimob support to aid displaced residents. At least three people were injured, with victims treated at Hermina Kemayoran Hospital and RSCM hospital.
Witnesses reported initial attempts to extinguish the fire with extinguishers, but the blaze grew uncontrollable. Investigators suspect an electrical short circuit as the cause, though the official inquiry continues.
