Inp.polri.go.id - Kupang. Two Mobile Brigade (Brimob) officers from East Nusa Tenggara who were victims of a shooting by the armed criminal group (KKB) in Papua have been granted special promotions by the Indonesian National Police (INP) Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo.
According to East Nusa Tenggara Police Public Reelations Department Head Senior Superintendent Ariasandy, the decision to grant the special promotion is in response to the recent armed clash between the KKB in Intan Jaya, Papua, and the Damai Cartenz Task Force on Wednesday.
During the exchange of fire, the two Brimob members were shot dead. Second Private Rani Yohanes Seran was shot in the left thigh and is currently in intensive care. However, Second Private Bonifasius Jawa succumbed to gunshot wounds to the right side of his back, antaranews.com reported
The spokesperson explained that the posthumous promotion of the late Private Jawa was First Private while Private Rani, will receive an extraordinary rank promotion one level above his current rank .
"The promotion is one level higher as per the decision of the INP Chief on extraordinary promotion," he said on Thursday (23/11/2023)
Extraordinary rank promotions are given to police personnel one rank higher as a token of recognition for exceptional performance in the discharge of police duties.
Jawa was a member of the 1st Company of Battalion C of the Brimob Unit of the East Nusa Tenggara Regional Police, which has been deployed in Papua since late December 2022.
His remains was transported to Kupang on Thursday and will arrive in Kupang on Friday (24/11) morning before being taken to Bajawa, Ngada Regency, in the afternoon.
