inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Believed that the Red and White cabinet to be facing challenges in fulfilling human rights in Indonesia, the Indonesian National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM), Saurlin P. Siagian, notes various steps that could be taken by Minister of Human Rights Natalius Pigai in the future.

“There would be many challenges, particularly in preparing regulations, institutions, and the funding needed. And because it is a new ministry, the bureaucratic machine needs to be prepared first before starting to provide services to the public," he said, on Wednesday (10/23/2024).

In addition, he stressed that HAM issues in Indonesia not only revolve around public awareness, but also in state policies that often cause human rights violations.

"Improvements must start from the political structure and policies first. Then we can talk about how to raise awareness in the community," he explained.

Furthermore, he is also optimistic that even though big challenges await, this ministry will ensure the fulfillment of basic community rights. With cross-sector collaboration, it is hoped that the Ministry of Human Rights can advance human rights in Indonesia.
