Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. A legislator of the House of Representatives (DPR) has urged the government to take firm action against paid nikah siri (unregistered Islamic marriage) services being promoted on TikTok, warning that the trend degrades religious values and exposes women and children to legal risks.

“Digital platforms must not be allowed to commercialize religious practices and harm the public. We push the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Islamic organizations, and law enforcement to act together,” legislator Selly Andriany Gantina of Commission VIII stated on Sunday (23/11/2025), as cited by antaranews.com.

Selly said that promoting unregistered marriages for instant services constitutes dangerous commercial exploitation of religion. Without official registration through the Office of Religious Affairs (KUA), women lack state protection, including marital status, alimony rights, and civil entitlements. Children born from unregistered marriages also face long-term legal uncertainty.

She urged strict sanctions against unauthorized marriage officiators and enforcement targeting digital accounts selling nikah siri. She also called for stronger public education on legal marriage registration as a protective safeguard.
