Inp.polri.go.id - Labuan Bajo. A powerful magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck Flores, East Nusa Tenggara on Saturday morning (15/8/2026), causing structural damage to hotels and public facilities in Labuan Bajo.
The epicenter was located 30 kilometers northeast of Nagekeo Regency at a depth of 15 kilometers. The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) issued tsunami warnings, placing northern coastal areas of Manggarai, Ngada, Sikka, Ende, and Selayar under alert status.
"The updated magnitude is 7.7 SR. There is tsunami potential and the possibility of aftershocks," said Head of BMKG West Manggarai Maria Patrica Seran.
The quake triggered widespread panic, sending residents and tourists fleeing outdoors. Significant structural damage occurred at the Jayakarta Hotel, while local churches, hospitals, and schools reported minor damage.
Disaster management authorities and police units are currently conducting damage assessments and monitoring evacuation procedures across affected coastal zones.
