Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Communication and Information, Budi Arie Setiadi, warned on Thursday (19/10/2023) about the potential dangers of artificial intelligence (AI) to create negative content during the 2024 elections.
"In the upcoming elections people might engage in conflicts due to artificial intelligence. Like I mentioned earlier, if someone imitates your voice and creates a false image, spreading slander, will there not be conflicts? All of this due to artificial intelligence," he said in Jakarta as reported by antaranews.com.
Minister Budi Arie said that he has been aware of the significant AI potentials in influencing the election process in the context of the production and distribution of misinformation that can trigger conflicts.
He revealed that the government has been studying and developing regulations related to AI use, highlighting the importance of a profound understanding of the ethical use of artificial intelligence.
Minister Budi Arie expressed the government's commitment to tackling the dissemination of hoaxes, slander, and hate speech through a combination of technology, cultural approaches, and democratic values to preserve the integrity of the election process and ensure the public's participation in a healthy and peaceful democratic process.
