Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo of Indonesia called on the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to collaborate in preventing the escalation of the Gaza conflict.
"Indonesia strongly condemns the Israeli attack on Al Ahly Hospital in Gaza, which has claimed in hundreds of civilian casualties," President Jokowi said during a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Mohammed bin Salman al-Saud held at the Al-Yamamah Palace in Riyadh on Thursday (19/10/23).
Press Bureau of the Presidential Secretariat conveyed the President Jokowi's deep concern regarding the deteriorating situation in Palestine during the discussions with the Prime Minister. The President underscored Indonesia's resolute stance in condemning all assaults that infringe upon the sanctity of human life within its borders.
President Widodo strongly advocated for the prompt resolution of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, underscoring the significance of adhering to established terms.
"It is imperative for the global community to unite in halting the escalation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, prioritizing humanitarian concerns, and addressing the underlying issues within established international parameters," he asserted
Earlier in the day, Jokowi dispatched the Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi ahead of the Indonesian presidential delegation in Beijing, China, as part of the "Belt and Road Forum," to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to attend the Extraordinary Meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC)
This meeting was convened in response to the Israeli airstrikes on Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in Gaza, a tragedy resulting in a grievous toll of 471 fatalities and 342 casualties.
During the meeting, Minister Retno Marsudi implored the OIC to convey a robust message and galvanize international backing to ameliorate the deteriorating conflict dynamics in Gaza.
Indonesia called upon the OIC to urge all relevant parties to establish a humanitarian corridor in Gaza, and to ensure the respect of international humanitarian law, the Minister said.
