Inp.polri.go.id - Lumajang. Mount Semeru, Java’s highest volcano, unleashed a series of powerful eruptions on Saturday morning (14/2/2026) , sending massive pyroclastic flows six kilometers down its southeastern slopes.

The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) recorded the primary blast at 5.54 am, which propelled a thick ash column 2,000 meters into the sky, coating nearby districts in volcanic debris.

"Residents must strictly avoid the 13-kilometer exclusion zone along the Besuk Kobokan river to prevent casualties from these unpredictable hot clouds," warned observation officer Sigit Rian Alfian, as cited by antaranews.com.

Authorities remain on high alert as the volcano maintains its Level III status. Search and rescue teams are currently monitoring riverbeds for potential lethal cold lava flows triggered by rainfall. While no immediate injuries were reported, police have cordoned off entry points to the summit, urging villagers to remain vigilant as seismic activity fluctuates.
