inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Vice Chairman of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Edhie Baskoro Yudhoyono emphasized the importance of increasing ASEAN regional collaboration as an anchor of peace and balance in the region.
"Including increasing collaboration in ASEAN as an anchor of peace and balance so that we must maintain this good relationship," said Ibas, Edhie Baskoro's nickname, quoted by Antaranews on Thursday (4/24/2025).
This was conveyed by Ibas when meeting with the Indonesian Ambassador to Singapore Suryo Pratomo at the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia, Singapore, Wednesday (4/23/2025).
He said that increasing ASEAN regional collaboration is more directed at creating a trade and investment ecosystem for the sake of Indonesia's progress, including supporting food, energy and environmental sustainability independence.
Ibas also emphasized the importance of Indonesia strengthening national diplomacy in order to face various global geopolitical and economic challenges today, starting from the unfinished Russia-Ukraine war, the tense conditions in the Middle East, to the dynamics of the South China Sea.
"As well as other strategic issues related to cyber security, global supply chains and energy transformation are challenges as well as opportunities for ASEAN countries, plus currently there is a tariff war and the tension of economic war is increasingly felt," he said.
According to him, with various kinds of changes, challenges, and global dynamics, it further emphasizes the urgency for Indonesia to improve diplomacy, explore potential, and seek opportunities for more diverse cooperation.
On that occasion, Ibas also emphasized the importance of the role of the Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) in providing services and supervision for more than 200 thousand Indonesian people in Singapore.
"In addition, of course we will also continue to encourage the Singapore Embassy, which has currently done many things, to continue to pay attention to services, supervision, protection and guidance for our people in Singapore," he said.
The Vice Chairman of the MPR also emphasized that national diplomacy is not only the business of the government and diplomats, but is the responsibility of all elements of the nation, including state institutions.
He also hopes that the synergy between the MPR RI and the Indonesian Embassy in Singapore can continue to be improved in order to strengthen Indonesia's position in the international arena.
