Speaking after his inauguration by President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo at the State Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday (25/10/2023), he referred to the ongoing difficulties in Papua and stressed that solving these problems requires a comprehensive strategy that goes beyond security measures.
"It is not just the Indonesian Military and the Indonesian National Police [INP] that are responsible for solving these problems. Cooperation with government ministries and institutions is necessary," General Agus was quoted as saying by antaranews.com.
He reiterated the government's commitment to improving security and welfare in Papua. General Agus took over from retired General Dudung Abdurachman. Born into a military family on 5 August 1967, General Agus' father retired from the Indonesian military as a non-commissioned officer.
After graduating from the military academy in 1991, General Agus built his career as a junior officer in the elite military. During his 18-year tenure, he held several key positions, including serving as the Military District Commander of 0735/Surakarta from 2009 to 2011.
