Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Religious Affairs has clarified that there is no ban on holding weddings outside the Office of Religious Affairs (KUA) on holidays after confusion on social media regarding the newly issued Ministerial Regulation (PMA) No. 22 of 2024 about marriage registration.

KUA manages Islamic marriage registration, counseling, divorce, mosque oversight, and religious administrative matters under the Religious Ministry.

The ministry spokesperson, Anna Hasbie, explained on Sunday (13/10/2024) that while KUA offices only operate on weekdays, couples can hold weddings outside the office on holidays.

“It’s important to note that only the KUA office is closed on holidays, not the marriage registrars,” she said, as quoted by antaranews.com.

The regulation does not restrict couples from holding weddings at their chosen locations, whether at home, places of worship, or elsewhere, as long as all legal requirements are met.

The confusion arose after reports suggested that weddings were prohibited outside KUA on non-working days. The Religious Ministry reassured the public that wedding services remain available, and officials will continue performing ceremonies outside the office.

The Ministry has pledged to improve public understanding of PMA No. 22 by conducting further outreach to avoid future misunderstandings.
