Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan has insisted that the government did not impose a boycott on products linked to Israel despite the on-going public initiatives to boycott Israeli products. "We are not banning any products as long as they comply with existing regulations," he aid during a working meeting with House Commission VI in Jakarta on Monday (27/11/2023). Regarding public initiatives to boycott Israeli products, Minister Zulfili saidthat it was not a problem as it was the right of every individual. According to Zulkifli Hasan, the government is focusing on establishing regulations. Therefore, the government does not ban any products from being sold in Indonesia as long as they comply with the regulations. "If the public has an opinion, please express it. The government does not ban anything, there is no ban. If there's a regulation, yes," he said as quoted by antaranews.com as saying. Isy Karim, the Director General of Domestic Trade at the Ministry of Trade, suggested that the compilation of a boycott list against Israeli products should be done selectively to ensure that accurate information is disseminated in society. Karim explained that the decree (fatwa) issued by the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) banning the use of products linked to Israel was in line with the government's stance of supporting Palestinian independence.
