Inp.polri.go.id - Semarang. Minister for Migrant Workers Protection (PPMI) Abdul Kadir Karding revealed on Saturday (16/11/2024) that over five million Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) are working illegally abroad.

"On average, over five million registered migrant workers leave annually, and more than five million are unregistered," he said, as quoted by antaranews.com.

Minister Abdul Kadir explained that these workers are spread across 100 countries, including Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, South Korea, and Hong Kong. Illegal workers are a significant concern for the ministry, as they are vulnerable to exploitation and human trafficking due to their unregulated status.

"Because they don't follow legal procedures, the state cannot guarantee their safety," he noted, highlighting the risks of these workers being exploited and lacking necessary skills for their jobs.

The ministry plans to improve migrant workers' skills, including certification and training in safety and foreign languages, to ensure they are better prepared for work abroad.
