Inp.polri.go.id - Jayapura.  The Papua Regional Police Chief, Inspector General Mathius D. Fakhiri, predicted the continued security and public order disruptions caused by the armed criminal group (KKB) in Papua in 2024. "In order to minimize the number of casualties resulting from security disturbances by KKB, we hope that managers of companies employing workers to consistently coordinate with security forces in the region," he said on Tuesday (2/1/2023). Chief Fakhiri asserted security forces need to be aware of construction activities, especially in areas identified as prone to KKB unrest. Through coordination, security forces can monitor the presence of workers or residents in certain areas. The Papua Police recorded  196 KKB incidents , resulting in 63 deaths, 81 injuries and one person being held hostage in 2023. "One civilian held hostage by the KKB is Phillip Mehrtens, a Susi Air pilot who has been held captive since February 2023," he said. (mg/ys/pr/nm)
