In his statement on Saturday (7/25/2026), Panius Kogoya expressed his deep disappointment over the shooting that killed civilians in Yahukimo. He stated that acts of violence against people not involved in the conflict cannot be justified under any circumstances.

"I, Panius Kogoya, as the Chairman of BMP-RI of Timika Regency, convey the issue that occurred in Yahukimo on July 20, 2026. As the Chairman of BMP-RI, I am deeply disappointed by the shooting of innocent and sinless civilians," he said.

He also appealed to those who continue to commit acts of violence to cease actions that cause suffering for the Papuan people themselves.

"We need to live together in peace, but if they commit acts of violence for no apparent reason, I, as the Chairperson of the BMP-RI, convey that the victim who was murdered was my relative, of the same clan as me, and I feel deeply disappointed by this incident. What was done was wrong. Being held captive and killed by shooting is a heinous act," he said.

According to Panius, this incident not only left grief for the victim's family, but also violated humanitarian values ​​and the lives of the Papuan people who desire a safe and peaceful situation.

He expressed his support for the security forces' actions in investigating the case so that the perpetrator can be prosecuted according to applicable law.

"I ask the central government, regional governments, the Indonesian Military (TNI) and the Indonesian National Police (INP) to fully support the pursuit of the perpetrator of the shooting," he said.
