Police Arrest Marijuana Smuggler on the Waters of West Papua

inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The West Papua Regional Police Drug Criminal Investigation thwarted marijuana smuggling after arresting a boat passenger in Sorong Port.

The West Papua Regional Police Drug Criminal Director, Senior Superintendent Japerson Parningotan Sinaga explains that the arrest was led by the Team 3 Leader, Second Police Inspector Said Muhammad Akbar Al Hamid.

Initially, officers heard the information from the public that someone was boarding KM Sinabung from Jayapura City and will dock at Sorong Port on Wednesday, October 23rd, 2024. The person is said to attempt in smuggling marijuana.

“Based on the information, Team 3 immediately investigate and monitor the person in concern,” says Japerson.

Then, approximately at 08.30 am, police personnel arrest the man with the initials of JDM, 19 years old, when getting off the KM Sinabung.

When police searched JDM, they found 13 plastic bags of marijuana inside a bag. Police said the total weight of the drugs is around 200 grams.

After that, personnel also confiscated a cellphone unit which was said to be used for drug transactions with dealers in Jayapura.

"Following the arrest, police moved JDM and the evidence to Team 3 Post of West Papua Regional Police Drug Criminal Investigation for further investigation process" he explained.
