inp.polri.go.id - Bekasi. The police have successfully arrested JP, 59 years old, a sports teacher at a public junior high school (SMP). The police have named him a suspect in a sexual harassment case.

Bekasi City Sub-regional Police Chief, Senior Superintendent Kusumo Wahyu Bintoro, said the suspect had harassed one of his students three times.

"The victim confessed that the perpetrator had harassed her three times. As a result of the harassment, the victim experienced mental stress and even attempted to harm herself," he said on Wednesday (8/27/2025).

The last harassment was carried out by JP in one of the school rooms on August 14, 2025. Initially, the victim was in the OSIS room with her friends. Not long after, JP came and told the victim's friends to leave the room. After the others left, JP harassed the victim.

"The perpetrator grabbed the victim from behind and then sexually assaulted her by touching her sensitive areas," Kusumo explained.

After repeated harassment, the victim, feeling depressed, finally told her parents about what was happening. Her parents reported the case to the police and JP was arrested on August 26, 2025.

As a result of his actions, JP is now being charged under Law Number 17 of 2016 concerning sexual violence against children, which carries a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison.

"We are currently communicating with the KPAD (Child Protection Agency) and the Bekasi City Women and Children Protection Agency regarding the child's (victim's) psychology," he concluded.
